Story Time - (or practice time)

I thought I would start practicing writing short stories and articles

before tackling the 3rd edition of John Wells Rattlesnake Island book .

Attached is a funny thing that happened a couple months ago. Please

let me know what you honestly think. Critiques are important to improvements.

How I was schooled by a 4th Grader

In September of 2025, I was just finishing up teaching a group of 4th graders how to mail a letter. As the kids were leaving, a student stopped to thank me for the useful lesson. She noticed the flip phone on the table next to me and asked if that was mine. As I reached for the phone I answered proudly “why yes, it is”, as I’m one of the few people I know to avoid the temptation of upgrading to a smart phone. The 9-year-old looked up at me, looked at the phone again, then gently shaking her head and looking down at the floor said with disappointment in her voice, “that is so sad”. I guess not everyone is impressed with my flip phone.
